Here's a very nice 1968 (GF-prefix) .22 BSA Airsporter Mk II, with a Bushnell Banner 2.5x20 scope, pictured next to it's rival underlever, a Webley Mk III (discussed elsewhere on this forum).  This Airsporter is in near-mint condition and still very much in use.

Several variants (Mk I to Mk VI, -S, Stutzen, plus commemorative models) were produced from 1948.  As BSA's flagship model, the Airsporter would have been in direct competition with Webley's Mk III.  Both rifles are beautifully engineered and finished, both accurate with their preferred pellets.  The Airsporter has a bit more power and - in my opinion - a slightly better trigger, but those differences are marginal at best.  They both preform and handle well, so it's down to personal choice.

I hope to test-fire these two rifles side-by-side at a later date and will report back with some empirical data on m.v. and accuracy.  Which one do I prefer?  That's a difficult one - both have good and bad features - I'll have to ponder on that and let you know.....

My pal has a .177 BSA Club - the forerunner of the Airsporter - three-piece stock, tapered barrel.  I've bagged a few bunnies with her in the past and I know my pal has too.  The Club is my all-time favourite BSA.  She's currently in line for a re-blue, but once that's done, I'll post some porn...

She's going to look a whole lot prettier with some blue.  The stock is actually quite nice, with a bit of a tiger-stripe (which you can just about make out from the picture).  She does about 8 ft/lbs with good old Crosman 7.9 grain Premiers, very smooth to shoot and surprisingly accurate...
